VOCATIONS

Those individuals who feel called to this vocation will feel a strong desire to follow the Johannine Contemplative Community Mission, a calling to follow the Franciscan Contemplative Life, and a deep attraction in their soul to the Franciscan mystics (e.g., St. Francis of Assisi, St. Clare of Assisi, Blessed Brother Giles, Angela of Foligno, Jacapone da Todi, St. Bonaventure, St. Catherine of Genoa, St. Joseph of Cupertino, St. Padre Pio, St. Mary Francis of the Five wounds of Jesus Christ, St. Veronica Giuliani, Francisco de Osuna, St. Peter of Alcantara, St. Saint Margaret of Cortona).

A vocation to the Franciscan Johannine Contemplative Community is a true and honest calling from God. It is not a club to join or a bible study to sign up for. An authentic calling and vocation to the Johannine Contemplative Community is what is tested. It is not for everyone. Most importantly, the spiritual development of the person and the Community is a top priority at all times. Continually. We are not simply “active.” The Franciscan Johannine Contemplative Community feels what has been lost in most instances is the spiritual element in place of only being active and business-oriented. This is where the “world” has crept in and overtaken many facets of one’s life and institutions nowadays.

Further, there are no precise time frames to provide to getting to profession. There are several reasons for this: (1) it is individualized. Everyone is unique and has a variety of personal characteristics to bring to formation. Some individuals need less time while others require more time before making profession, and (2) formation is forever ongoing. There is not "A" goal or just a "series" of goals before "making it" to profession. Formation is perpetual, and so within that time there may be a profession. Not everyone is or will be a "good fit", but everyone discerns a Calling. Many will come and begin formation only to find out that it wasn't a "true Calling".

Note. One can be married and be in our Community. We are a Secular-Franciscan-Contemplative-Community living in the World (comparable to the General Constitutions-Article 36)
